Want to solve the problem of soil compaction on your farm? You’ve come to the right place!
Because we all want cheap food, farmers have to use the most efficient means of growing crops, and this usually involves large and very heavy machines. Many of these put down 12 t under just one wheel!
And soil doesn’t just bounce back – it takes many years to recover from just a single pass of a wheel or track and most farming systems track nearly 100% of a field every year.
We can now completely turn this on its head – perhaps leaving about 85% of the field without any tracking – ever!
We call this Controlled Traffic Farming which uses satellite guidance technology and autosteer to keep vehicles in exactly the same place year in year out – often to centimetre accuracy. We also need to match up the widths of machines and where their wheels run but we can do this with some careful planning and perhaps a few machine “tweaks”.
